Our Team

Hope. Authenticity.

Connection.

Renovating Hope believes in the transformative power of stories. Our practice is deeply rooted in the belief that everyone has the capacity to alter the narrative of their life and take control of how their story unfolds.

We also recognize that all good stories have peaks and valleys. Our mission is to walk alongside our clients so that they don’t have to journey through the ups and downs of life alone. Through connection, we reveal the beauty that emerges from the process of healing.

As a whole, Renovating Hope believes in an even larger story of redemption that God is writing for the world. The goal of this practice is to spread that redemption to those who feel stuck and damaged beyond repair.

Our counseling practice allows people to discover the beauty within their own stories, redefine their narratives, and feel supported on their journey toward growth, healing, and self-discovery.

Meet Kristen Shoemaker, MAEd, LPC, CPCS

Founder and Owner

Since 2004, Kristen has been walking alongside individuals as they begin to uncover the larger story taking place all around and inside them. Watching God use brokenness to move people toward redemption and wholeness is one of Kristen’s greatest privileges as a therapist.

Kristen’s therapeutic approach is a blend of Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Attachment Theory. She works with clients in a collaborative way to build rapport and to facilitate the client’s ownership in the room so clients can recognize their part in growing and understanding their story. She is extensively trained in the integration of psychology and faith, and faith-based counseling tools are available for integration at the client’s request. However, people of all backgrounds are welcome. Kristen also practices from a trauma informed care lens.

Kristen is married and has four children. She loves the Grand Tetons, time at Kiawah Island, and her goldendoodle, Pippin.

Kristen sees clients in person and via telehealth in Atlanta, GA as well as clients via telehealth from South Carolina.
